LILLIAN, Ala. — Fun for the entire family is on the schedule when the Optimist Club of Perdido Bay hosts the 26th Annual Mullet Festival at the Lillian Community Club on Labor Day.
A traditional Optimist Club breakfast will be served from 7-9 a.m. Enjoy pancakes, sausage, biscuits and gravy for only $4 and kids ages 2 to 8 eat free.
Follow up from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a spectacular Mullet/Catfish or ham dinner for $8 and once again, kids eat free. The dinner includes hushpuppies, baked beans, coleslaw, dessert and iced tea.
Music will be provided from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. by Big Jake and the Tag-A-Longs. Kids will enjoy games and inflatables and the Mullet Fling is open to all.
Stop inside and participate in the silent auction that includes golf packages and other special items. Raffle tickets are available to win $1,700 in prizes. Contact any Optimist member to get tickets, $1 each or six for $5.
Scores of men, women and children will participate in the 5K run/walk and fun run.
Pre-registered runners receive the famous Mullet T-shirts and awards will be given in 78 separate age-groups. Dr. Keith Cooper is the Race Director.
The 5K runners and walkers begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Lillian Community Club on Widell Avenue. On-site registration will be held from 6-7:15 a.m. for $20, but sign up before Aug. 27 and pay a pre-registration fee of $15 and receive a traditional “Mr. Mullet” T-shirt. The event includes a post-race party with beverages and snacks and door prizes.
A free one-mile Fun Run/Walk begins at 8:15 a.m. There will be awards for the top three registered men and women and the first 40 finishers will receive ribbons as they cross the finish line. Race T-shirts may be purchased for $10 each.
The race course includes rolling, rural (paved and dirt) roads in Lillian. Split times are called at each mile. An EMT aid follow truck is included. For information or an application, visit www.lillian.org/ocpb.htm.
