DAPHNE, Ala.—A benefit concert and silent auction will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 9 at Daphne United Methodist Church to benefit Under His Wings.
The event is the culmination of a senior project for two University of Mobile students, Brittney Kinsey and Maggie Herbster.
Under His Wings is a refuge where teenage girls in crisis situations can break negative life cycles. The organization was started in 2009, but it has not been able to secure a home to house the teenagers. The organization plans to offer guidance, counseling, educational opportunities and life skills to troubled teenage girls.
“We decided to do a benefit for this organization and we approached the church because the venue is perfect,” Herbster said.
The One Prayer benefit concert will feature Roman Street, Mithril, Lillian Nichole and IMPACT. Art from local artists will also be on display.
Art, photographs, trips and cosmetics will be up for bid during a silent auction to take place within the first half of the concert.
Herbster and Kinsey hope the event is beneficial to Under His Wings since the organization is just starting out and needs funding and publicity.
“We are hoping to get the word out and raise some money so the organization can get enough money to be able to buy or lease a house,” Herbster said. “Mostly we just wanted people to find out about the great things they are doing.”
Herbster said she is hoping for a good turnout.
“We are hoping to at least have 400, but we will be happy with whoever is going to come. We are hoping for the best,” she said.
Tickets for the event are $5 in advance and will be $7 at the door. Tickets can be purchased by calling 228-234-5903 or 913-669-0128 or by visiting One Prayer Benefit Concert on Facebook.
