DAPHNE, Ala. — The Old Methodist Church Museum of Daphne re-opened to the public on Friday, ending more than two months of closure from uncomfortable temperatures and a malfunctioning air conditioning unit.
Old duct work beneath the building was replaced with new metal duct work, which allowed Mickey Boykin, Daphne Museum Committee president, to re-open the museum to the public. Temperatures were back to normal when the museum re-opened Friday, Boykin said.
“It was comfortable and we are back in business,” Boykin said.
She stressed that without the help of Public Works Director Richard Johnson and Daphne Buildings and Maintenance Supervisor Frank Barnette, the museum would still be closed.
“There’s all sorts of red tape,” Boykin said. “But they got behind it and got it done.”
Boykin said the museum closed in June because of high, uncomfortable temperatures. The building, earlier this month, reached 92 degrees inside.
