Ohio snowbird group sets activity schedule

The first Ohio Club snowbird breakfast was Wednesday on a rainy morning at LuLu’s Homeport Marina.  President Sharon Goodwin opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the invocation given by Don Thrash.

Club breakfasts are the first and third Wednesdays January through March at LuLu’s at 8 am.  Reservations for the next breakfast on Jan. 19 MUST be made by the Sunday before the breakfast by contacting Treasurer Gayle Hofacker at 251-540-7745 or email her at gayliano13@embarqmail.com. 

Bebe Gauntt of Christian Service Center will be our speaker. Feb. 2, we will have the Four Winds Barbershop Singers.

We currently have 150 paid members, of which 88 attended the breakfast along with six new members.  The Ohio Club is open to all Buckeyes and former Buckeyes.  Dues are $2.50 each and you may contact Treasurer Gayle Hofacker at the above numbers.

Carolyn Rooks announced the following activities for January and early February:

Tuesday is dinner at Wolf Bay Lodge on Co. Rd. 20 at 4 p.m.; January 14 is lunch at Magnolia’s at 1 p.m.  followed by a tour of Swift Cole Mansion at 3 p.m.; Jan. 21 will be a  Ladies Brunch 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at Caribe Bldg. D; Jan. 26 is dinner at Rum Runners at 6 p.m. with the Dueling Pianos at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Jan. 27 is the Pot luck lunch and game day, noon at Caribe Bldg. C; Jan. 31 is Red Hat and Romeos lunch at Live Bait, Perdido Beach Blvd. at 1 p.m..; Feb. 7 - 12 will be the Carnival Cruise for Ohio Club members.

We received thank you notes from Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranches, American Red Cross for Haiti relief, Christian Service Center and Mary’s Shelter for donations made by the Ohio Club in 2010.

This year we will again be doing the book exchange.  Bring in your books, take a few and return them later.  Any books left over at the end of the year are donated tothe libraries.  We also are doing door prizes and requesting members to donate those.
