ROBERTSDALE, Alabama --- Baldwin County Sheriff’s officials believe they have identified a dead body found near the Florida-Alabama state line last week as that of a missing Escambia County, Fla., man.
Eric Winberg, investigator with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, said they are not yet releasing the name of the man, who was reported missing on Sunday, Sept. 2, pending confirmation from dental records and finger prints.
The man was found in a swampy area off of U.S. Highway 90 near the Alabama-Florida border on Thursday, Sept. 6, Winberg said. There were no signs of trauma, so foul play is not suspected in the case.
“We have notified his next of kin,” Winberg said, “and can release more information once we confirm his identity.”
