First grade is learning about the farm. They are learning information about pigs and chickens and the importance they play in agriculture in Alabama.

In grammar, first grade is learning about telling sentences. As they learn about these, they will write telling sentences about pigs and chickens.  First grade will continue addition in math.

Third grade students are learning about specific weather events such as hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, thunderstorms, and floods.

Each group is researching their topic and will be ready to present the information at the conclusion of the weather unit.

In reading, third graders are concluding their unit of money with “Rows and Piles of Coins.” This story is about a young man who is saving all of his earnings for a bicycle he sees at the market.

Mrs. Brantley’s K-3 students at Sea, Sand, and Stars are using skills necessary for scientific inquiry.

Kindergarten students are observing and comparing fresh water snails and goldfish in their aquariums. First graders are continuing to observe, measure, and compare their terrarium plants and will add pill bugs to their terrariums.

Second grade students are studying the chrysalis and adult stages of their Painted Lady Butterflies and, after studying the anatomy of the butterflies, students will release their butterflies.

Third graders are comparing and contrasting minerals and will perform tests to determine the color and luster of their minerals.

Ecology is the theme for Sea, Sand, and Stars in Mrs. Allen’s classes.

Fourth grade classes are studying and making collections of native, non-native, and invasive plants; fifth graders are engaged in classification of marine plants, and sixth graders are learning how to measure water quality parameters in preparation for raising koi.

Field trips continue this month at Sea, Sand, & Stars! Elementary students from J. Larry Newton, Stapleton Elementary, Fairhope Elementary School, Bay Minette Intermediate, Bayshore Christian, and Gulf Shores Elementary will enhance their curriculums with studies in marine science and astronomy.
