Joseph Clifton Nowell, born Nov. 3, 1932 in Philadelphia and a resident of Foley, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, after a long fight with kidney disease.
He graduated from Murphy High School and served in the U. S. Army in Korea. He retired from Courtaulds Fibers in June of 1988 after 32 years as Machine Shop – Maintenance Foreman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie C. Nowell, mother, Zada H. Nowell, and a sister, Betty N. Jackson.
Survivors include his loving wife and very best friend, Mary Jo Nowell; four step children and best friends, Cindy Stewart, Cheryl (Ernie) Carlisle, Patti (David) Barchie, and Kenneth (Faye) Stewart; four step-grandchildren, Bryon Allsup, Shannon Allsup, Brandon Hubbard and Jackson Stewart; one niece and one nephew.
Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 21 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Foley. Graveside services and interment followed at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
