Page & Palette, 32 S. Section St. in Fairhope, is pleased to host photographer Richard Sexton for the signing of his book, Rosemary Beach, Saturday, June 9, from 2-4 p.m.
Sexton is a commercial and fine art photographer and photo educator whose career as an artist spans three decades.
In the spring of 2001, he was commissioned by “Southern Accents” magazine to produce a feature on Rosemary Beach, Fla. It was the first major magazine feature devoted to this highly successfully New Urbanism community.
A year later, the developer, Rosemary Beach Land Co. hired Sexton to produce an extended photo essay on the community — a commission that has continued to the present.
The comprehensive library of photographic images that resulted from these commissions led to Sexton’s book on the community. Rosemary Beach features two interrelated photo essays that focus on the overall plan and the architectural style of the community.
These essays are complemented by a written introduction that details the history of Rosemary Beach, a section that illustrates the various house types and a walking tour of the community.
Sexton currently teaches photography at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts and has previously taught at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. His work has been published in local and national architecture and design magazines, and he has published several photography books.
