BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Students of North Baldwin Center for Technology were recognized during a certificate ceremony held on Thursday at Faulkner State Community College.

Students of this school attend their regular high schools (Daphne, Spanish Fort and Baldwin County high schools) for core classes, then take trade courses such as cosmetology, carpentry and welding at the center.

During the ceremony, Molly Beach and Maddison Harris of Spanish Fort High School’s choir, sang “Like an Eagle” by Strommen and “Someday” by Saad and Springer while accompanied by Kathy Hughes on the piano.

NBCT Principal Julia Bryant bestowed awards for those students with 3.25 and higher grade-point averages.

Outstanding seniors included: Candace Stokes, agri-science; Dylan Ringstad, carpentry; Christopher Blake Henry, welding; Ryan Johnson, HVACR; Courtney Broadus, business marketing; Shanteal Quarles, health science; Allison Moore, cosmetology; and Jalen Mims, aviation.

Outstanding club members included: Kierra Bryars, cosmetology; Justin Black, HVACR; Kyle Bland, welding; Larry Johnson, carpentry; Courtney Broadus, health science; and Joannie Thomas, agri-science.

National Technical Honor Society honorees were: Kantrel Bush, Landon Deloach, Troy Emmons, Jazhua Nye, Shanteal Quarles, Andrew Rollin, Joannie Thomas, Alexandria Travis and Blane Waltman.

Kayla Womack was recognized for the Red Ribbon Leadership Award and Scholarship and the NBCT Ricky Bell Award.

Students heard congratulatory and inspiring words from Alan Lee, Baldwin County Schools superintendent, and Patty Hughston, of the Faulkner State Community College department of work-force development.

Guests, students and faculty chuckled as a photo slide-show by Robert Wills’ multi-media class displayed friends, classwork, projects and fun moments from the past year.

Bryant and Wills awarded completion certificates for 192 eligible seniors, 112 of whom had completed three or more sequences of classes in the same pathway.

Bryant left the students with some closing remarks as she told a story of the child of an unwed graduate student who was given up for adoption. She said the mother would only give up the son if the adoptive parents promised he would attend college. She explained that the child took a few calligraphy classes at Stanford and went on to design the first Macintosh computer with a variety of fonts and helped form Pixar and Apple. Bryant then encouraged students to overcome obstacles in their own lives and work toward success.

“Build on your strengths, connect your dots and follow your dreams,” she said.
