"3">Norborne “Bazoo” Clarke Stone Jr., 86, of

Bay Minette, passed away Sept. 4, 2011, at his home in Spanish

Fort. He was born on Feb. 28, 1925 in Mobile, the son of Norborne

C. Stone and Blandie Dickson Stone.

"3">Norborne graduated with honors in 1942

from University Military School of Mobile, and then attended The

Citadel, in Charleston, S.C. and Spring Hill College in Mobile.

Following service in the United States Air Force during World War

II, Norborne graduated from the University of Alabama School of Law

in 1947. While in law school, he was a member of Phi Delta Theta

fraternity.

"3">After graduating, Norborne returned to Bay

Minette to practice law where his grandfather, Frank S. Stone,

began practicing in 1897, and his father, Norborne C. Stone, began

practicing in 1917.

"3">Norborne was a founding member of Stone

Granade & Crosby P.A. Following terms of service on the Alabama

State Bar Association’s Board of Bar Commissioners and its Judicial

Inquiry Commission, he served as its president in 1982-83. Norborne

was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, an

organization whose membership is composed of the best of the trial

bar in the United States and Canada. He was also a founding

director of Attorneys Insurance Mutual of the South Inc., an

insurance company dedicated to serving the needs of Alabama

attorneys, and continued to serve on its Board of Directors until

2010.

"3">In 2007, he was awarded the Howell T.

Heflin Honor and Integrity Award by the Mobile and Baldwin County

Bar Associations. Norborne also served the University of Alabama

School of Law as an active member of the Farrah Law Society and as

a member of the Executive Committee of the Law School

Foundation.

"3">As a citizen of Bay Minette, he was a

member of the Kiwanis Club and served on the vestry of Immanuel

Episcopal Church where he was also a lay reader. In 2003, he and

his wife were chosen as the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce

Citizens of the Year.

"3">He is survived by his wife of 63 years,

Patricia “Pat” Bartlett Stone; and six children, Nancy Crunkleton

(Richard), Huntsville; Louise Wright (Jimmie), Birmingham;

Elizabeth C. Stone, Maryville, Tenn.; Norborne “Chip” C. Stone III

(Elizabeth), Fairhope; Anne Sumblin (Andy), Kinston, Ala.; and

Patricia D. Stone, Tuscaloosa; and by 11 grandchildren and one

great-grandson.

"3">The family will receive visitors at St.

Paul’s Episcopal Church of Daphne’s Malone Hall on Wednesday, Sept.

7, 2011, at 2 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 3

p.m.
