FAIRHOPE, Ala. — According to a report received this afternoon (Dec. 21) by the Baldwin County Health Department, an electrical problem at the Woodlands Lift Station, 1 Woodlands Drive in Fairhope, brought about a system failure.
The city of Fairhope utilities department reported that the breakdown caused an estimated 3,500 gallons of non-disinfected effluent to be discharged into Fly Creek.
The health department urges residents to exercise caution if using this body of water for recreational purposes.
Also, thoroughly cook any fish or seafood caught nearby, and wash hands after handling fish or seafood.
