FAIRHOPE, Ala. - A revision of the city’s noise ordinance will be introduced at Monday’s City Council meeting, The Fairhope Courier learned Thursday morning.
Although the council agenda was not available by press time yesterday, the city clerk’s office confirmed that a noise ordinance item would be considered at the April 11 council meeting.
The noise ordinance has been a contentious subject during the past year and went through several major changes before its most recent version, which requires the use of decibel meters to measure violations.
At the council’s last work session on March 28, the existing law was discussed when local residents turned out to argue for a lower decibel level.
If a revised ordinance is introduced Monday, it would normally lay over two weeks for a vote at the next meeting April 25 and possible discussion at the work session prior to the meeting that night.
The ordinance could be voted on Monday, however, by a unanimous vote of the council for immediate consideration of the proposed law.
