SPANISH FORT, Alabama - The Spanish Fort Toros should be familiar with their opponent in the Class 5A baseball playoffs second round series on Friday.

Spanish Fort hosts Faith Academy in a double header at 5 p.m. Friday with a third “if necessary” game Saturday at 1 p.m.

The top-ranked Toros (32-6) suffered two losses at the hands of the second-ranked Faith Academy Rams (30-3) early in the season. The Rams beat the Toros 3-1 in February in the BayBears Classic and 10-3 in a game in early March.

“Faith has a great baseball team and they are going to be ready to beat us,” Spanish Fort head coach Brent Boyd said. “We have to be mentally ready and physically ready to beat them.”

The Rams have the upper hand this season, but the Toros have knocked the Rams out of the playoffs the past four seasons. Spanish Fort has won three consecutive Class 5A championships.

“I expect the same kind of game we always have against Faith,” Boyd said. “It seems like it usually us or Faith that moves on from our area. Up to this point I think everybody has pretty much expected both of us to be here. Now, all bets are off.”

How they got here: In the first round Spanish Fort swept St. Paul’s 8-1, 4-3 while Faith swept Gulf Shores 10-0 and 19-2 on Saturday.

Class 5A Playoffs, Second Round: Faith Academy Rams (30-3) at Spanish Fort Toros (32-6).
