Motorists traveling along Alabama Highway 59 can expect nighttime lane closures beginning Sunday as crews continue work on the ongoing Highway 59 widening project.
According to project officials, the Alabama Department of Transportation will be milling, paving and striping Highway 59 from south of County Road 6 through the Fort Morgan Road intersection.
Work is scheduled from Sunday, Aug. 2, and continue nightly through Thursday, Aug. 6, weather permitting. Crews are expected to work from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. each night.
Single-lane closures were in place during work hours Thursday night and will again be implemented during nighttime construction hours Sunday through Aug. 6. Officials noted that the schedule could change depending on weather conditions.

Drivers are also reminded that the newly striped third lane on the Holmes Bridge will remain closed until construction of the new pedestrian bridge is completed.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution and follow all posted signage while traveling through the work zone.
