James Lester Nichols Jr., 82, a native of Florence, a longtime resident of Birminham and a resident of Orange Beach, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at a local hospital.
He attended Coffee High School in Florence. He served in the Army Air Corp in China, Burma and India theaters during World War II.
He lived in Birmingham for 52 years where he attended Shades Crest Baptist Church in Hoover.
Locally he was a member of the Board of Directors for the Tri-State Credit Bureau Association. He served as treasurer of Merchants Credit Association and was later promoted to the associate general manager. He also served on the Board of Directors. He was then promoted to chief operating officer.
He retired from Merchants Credit Association in 1991 with 29 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth P. Nichols; son, James L. Nichols III of Orange Beach; three grandchildren, James L. Nichols IV of Orlando, Fla., Keith Alan Nichols and Jennifer Rebecca Nichols, borth of Orange Beach; other relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, April 25 at Pine Rest Funeral Home with funeral services at 2 p.m. from the funeral home chapel.
The family requests memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Orange Beach.
