DAPHNE — Lawn care services are accessible with a tap of a button via GreenPal, an app designed for ordering contactless services.
Co-Founder Gene Caballero described GreenPal as the "Uber for lawn care." Caballero, who has a background in the lawn care industry dating back to high school and experience on the West Coast, was inspired by newer technologies like Uber, Lyft and Airbnb.
"If someone was going to summon a stranger to come pick them up or allow a stranger to live in their attic for a weekend and make extra money, then it would be super easy to get someone to summon a lawn care," he said.
This Nashville-based company launched in 2012 and currently operates in places such as Chicago, Charleston, New Orleans, Mobile and more.
Caballero said GreenPal launched in Mobile in 2022 and the idea sparked of bringing the services to Daphne after seeing homeowners signing up for the app where it was not operative.
"We saw that we had people organically signing up, so we knew that it was a market that we needed to launch this year," he said.
Homeowners can list their lawns with their service date and lawn care needs. Vetted lawn care pros can then bid on their properties based on Google Street and aerial images and any other lawn details the homeowner provides. Homeowners can then select who they want to work with based on the vendor's ratings, reviews, and price.
Vendors must be 18 years old and are required to have a valid drivers license, social security and bank account.
"After every service, the homeowner rates and reviews their vendor," Caballero said.
After every service, the vendor must take a photo of the property to show proof of visitation and completion of services.
"That kind of serves as a digital invoice to the homeowner," Caballero said. "Once the homeowner receives that picture, they then pay the landscaping professional through GreenPal."
Caballero added that this company not only handles the vendors' demand creation, but they handle their scheduling, route optimization and payment process.
"It's taking this type of business from pen and pad to digitally onto their phones," he said.
