Networking group aims to boost slice of boomer pie

SPANISH FORT, Ala.—A new networking group targeting business owners and agencies serving the needs of senior citizens in Baldwin County held its third meeting Tuesday in the Conservation Room of Bass Pro Shops in Spanish Fort.

Senior Services Roundtable, founded by Mobile elder care attorney Jim Zeigler, is designed to create a referral network for companies and social service agencies eager to capture a larger portion of the aging baby boomer population.

The idea is to create a master list, of sorts, of experts and specialists specifically attuned to the needs of an aging population that can cross-refer people needing a variety of services.

To date, Ziegler has created active chapters in Mobile and Baldwin counties as well as Tampa Bay, Orlando and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The cities of Pensacola, Ocala, Port Charlotte and Jacksonville, Fla., are expected to round out the first wave of what could become a national movement.

More than 140 business types—ranging from assisted living and legal services to optometrists and financial planners—that serve seniors in Baldwin and Mobile counties have been identified for potential participation in the network.

“We’re a referral group first, but we’re also trying to create synergy in the community that helps meet these needs that so often go overlooked,” said Tracey Eldridge, marketing director for the Senior Services Roundtable.

Each meeting features a lunch catered by a sponsoring member who, in turn, receives a 10-minute presentation window to showcase his business or agency. Other participants present 45-second elevator pitches summing up their respective entity’s role in the senior community and target audience.

Tuesday’s meeting featured Daphne’s DaVita Home Dialysis and elevator pitches from Fairhope’s Golden Living Center, Daphne’s Home Relief Health Services LLC, Mobile’s ACord Financial Services, WABF-1220 AM, Bay Minette-based Amedisys Home Health Care, Back In Motion chiropractic and acupuncture services as well as hospice representatives and the Mobile Area Council on Aging.

The next meeting of the Baldwin County chapter will be held Tuesday, May 19 at a location to be determined, and more information is available at www.SeniorServicesRoundtable.com.
