Betty Jean Gavin “Nanny” Nelson, born May 20, 1929 in Laurel, Miss., died April 30, 2007.
She moved to Magnolia Springs as a teenager where she attended Foley High School and met her husband of 58 years, Raymond M. “Jim” Nelson Sr.
They married and lived in Spanish Fort where they raised four children Raymond M. (Glenda) Nelson Jr., Brenda (Dale) Purvis, Bart (Tracey) Nelson and Susan (Marcus ) Gould. They had 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She loved woodworking, sewing, crafting, cooking, her family and Wal-Mart.
She died at her childhood home in Magnolia Springs on Weeks Bay surrounded and cared for by her closest family members.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5 at her home.
