Martin Leonard “Roll Tide Pep” Nelson, 76, a native and resident of Fairhope, died Friday. Nov. 2, 2007.
He retired from the City of Fairhope after working for 33 years. He was a volunteer fireman for 41 years, as well as being a lifetime member of the American Legions, the VFW and a charter member of the Elks Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jenkins and Augusta Nelson; brother, Jenkins Nelson Jr.; and son, Martin Curtis "Marty" Nelson.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nancy M. Nelson of Fairhope; daughter, Norma "Noni" (Henry) Stafford of Montrose, Mich.; brother, Robert (Elaine) Nelson of Fairhope; grandchildren, Michael Wiggins of Mobile, Martin Curtis II of Fairhope, Nancy Teresa Nelson of Fairhope and Hannah Scott of Mobile; great-grandchildren, Bailey Wiggins of Kansas, Christian Wiggins of Silverhill, and Austin Nelson of Summerdale; a very dear and special friend, Terry Zellers; several nieces, nephews, other relative and friends, as well as his loving pets, Hokie and Otis.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6 from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Colony Cemetery.
