"font-family: Calibri;">BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Industry in Bay Minette is expanding.
"font-family: Calibri;">During last week’s regular meeting of the North Baldwin Utilities Board, NBU General manager Jason Padgett announced that the organization is working to provide additional water, natural gas and wastewater lines for Railroad Recource LLC.
"font-family: Calibri;">“They’re now located on Newport Park,” he said in a telephone interview following the meeting. “They’re expanding into Stevens Park.”
"font-family: Calibri;">Padgett told the board that Railroad, which was the North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce’s 2010 Business of the Year, is planning to triple its operation in Bay Minette after obtaining 17 more acres.
"font-family: Calibri;">“We’ve been working with them to upgrade the system,” Padgett said. “We hope to be operational by Feb. 15.”
"font-family: Calibri;">He explained that NBU’s efforts are essential to that upgrade.
"font-family: Calibri;">“They use steam to heat these (railway) cars up,” Padgett said.
"font-family: Calibri;">But that’s not the limit of Railroad’s growth plan.
"font-family: Calibri;">“They’re expanding their trucking business,” Padgett said, explaining that the trucking portion of the business’ venture is to transport dry goods by truck.
"font-family: Calibri;">The NBU general manager told the board that Railroad’s expansion plan will include the addition of employees.
"font-family: Calibri;">“Now they have 10 to 15 employees,” Padgett said. “They’re going to be a real good industrial customer.”
"font-family: Calibri;">In addition to Railroad, Padgett reported that NBU tapped water lines for three customers: Hons Builders Inc., C. Doyle Weekley and Cindy L. Bush.
"font-family: Calibri;">Also Thursday, the NBU Board heard the following reports:
