Nat’l restaurant chain awards leadership scholarships to Daphne man, Satsuma woman

DAPHNE — Chick-fil-A Inc. has awarded its national Leadership Scholarship to David Cooper from Daphne and Laurel Hewett from Satsuma.

Cooper joins 12 other team members who have received the honor from the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Daphne. Cooper, who received the honor from franchised Chick-fil-A operator, Daniel Nance, is pursuing medicine at Faulkner University.

Hewett joins nine other team members who have received the honor from the Chick-fil-A at Colonial Mall Bel Air in Mobile.

The Chick-fil-A chain’s Leadership Scholarship program begtan in 1973 and has awarded more than 41 million in Alabama and $22 million nationwide.

The $1,000 scholarship supports restaurant employees’ efforts in pursuing a higher education. The program has involved more than 2,138 institutions across the country.
