Mrs. Peggy Richardson (née Fitts) of Staunton, Va., died in her home, on June 5, 2015 in the presence of her family. She was 84 years old.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, Susan Halsell of Staunton, Va.; her son, Bryant Richardson of Houston, Texas; her brother, Grady Fitts of Chicago, Ill.; and her grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Christopher, and Anne Richardson of Houston, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Richardson of Fairhope, Ala.
Peggy was born on Oct. 5, 1930 in Meridian, Miss. to Henry and Margaret Fitts.
She graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1952 with a degree in history.
She met Ken Richardson in New Orleans and they married in 1957. After moving to Texas, they had two children. She was primarily a homemaker, a frequent hostess and leader in her church and other community groups.
She travelled frequently, including trips to France, England, Switzerland and Italy.
She and her husband retired to Fairhope, Ala. in the early 1990s.
She was an active member of Fairhope Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and became an avid and accomplished duplicate bridge player. She treasured the friends she made in Fairhope.
Due to declining health, she moved to Staunton, Va. to be near her daughter. Until her final months, she remained an active reader and particularly enjoyed histories.
She will be remembered as a brilliant, conscientious and meticulous woman, a willing leader, an excellent hostess and a sweet lady.
She will be cremated and a private memorial service held.
