FOLEY, Ala. — A 19-year-old Foley teen was killed Sunday morning when his 1989 Yamaha motorcycle struck a van that was stationary.

Alexander D. Jones was fatally injured in the 2:27 a.m. crash that occurred within the Foley city limits near the intersection of Ala. Highway 59 and Baldwin County Road 20 near Tanger mall.

According to information released by the State Trooper post in Mobile, Jones’ motorcycle struck a 1989 Chevrolet van driven by Stacey M. Barnett, 35, of Tarrant, Ala. Barnett, who was stopped and waiting to merge into traffic when the crash occurred, was unhurt.

Jones was taken to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The death of Jones was yet another motorcycle-related death in the area during the year. On April 20, Jerry Kinard, 34, of Summerdale died when his 1991 Honda motorcycle struck a vehicle driven by a Lucedale, Miss., woman on County Road 28 west of Summerdale. Kinard was pronounced dead at the scene.

On April 21, James Edward Coleman, 57, of Daphne was killed near Magnolia Springs when his 1999 Harley Davidson failed to negotiate a curve at night on County Road 49. Coleman was pronounced dead at the scene.
