Local athletes will be representing their teams one last time during the 2022 AHSAA North-South All-Star Sports Week July 18-22. Familiar faces will also be seen on the South’s soccer, cross country and volleyball teams.

On the pitch, six girls’ soccer players from Baldwin County were selected to the roster and three boys’ soccer players were named south all-stars and will be joined on the coaching staff by Bayside Academy Head Coach Jamie Ferguson.

Six local schools will be represented on the South girls’ team by Fairhope center back Madelin Dicksey, Foley forward Yury Santaclara, St. Michael Catholic goalkeeper Mimi Smith, Gulf Shores center midfielder Jensen Ward, Orange Beach forward Emily Watson and Daphne central defender Dinuki Wickramanayake.

In addition to Ferguson, Bayside Academy will also be represented by goalkeeper Blai Cebrian-Claramunt. In front of him, Daphne midfielder Noah Miller and Spanish Fort forward Colin Spuler will look to help the South squad cut into its deficit in the all-time series.

Since the soccer series started in 1997, the North boys lead 13-4-1 and the North girls lead 16-3-1 after a North sweep last year, 6-1 in the girls’ match and 3-0 in the boys’ match.

On the cross country course, a pair of private school runners were named South All-Stars following impressive seasons.

Boaz Dernlan from Bayshore Christian School and Tyler Postle from Bayside Academy will look to help the South team take a lead in the series against the North All-Stars where a 28-29 win in last year’s competition evened the boys’ series at two apiece. The North girls won last year 15-42 to take a 3-1 lead in the series that started in 2017 but had the 2020 competition canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the volleyball court, a trio of local players will look to make it two wins in a row for the South-All Stars. Spanish Fort libero Faith Faucher, Daphne middle block/outside hitter Janiyah King and Bayshore Christian utility player Ashlyn Whiteside were all selected to the South squad.

Last year’s sweep (25-22, 25-22, 25-22) cut the North All-Stars’ all-time lead in the series down to 14-9 going back to the first match 25 years ago.
