ROBERTSDALE, Ala. - Tammy Herrington, Elyse Marley and Max Reed of Mobile Baykeeper will deliver the keynote presentation for the Baldwin County Library’s Staff Development Day. The annual event for all Baldwin County librarians and staff will be held on Friday, May 18, at the Central Annex in Robertsdale. Herrington, Marley and Reed will give an overview of Mobile Baykeeper and the organization’s effort to provide citizens a means to protect the beauty, health and heritage of the Mobile Bay watershed, Alabama's waterways and coastal communities. As deputy director for Mobile Baykeeper, Herrington is responsible for the organization’s response to the 2010 oil crisis in the Gulf of Mexico. She also coordinates volunteers, works on community outreach and public relations and manages grants for the organization. Marley is Mobile Baykeeper’s development director and is responsible for membership, the Grandman Triathlon, Bay Bash and other fundraising efforts. Reed is a member of Mobile Baykeeper’s board of directors and was instrumental in forming the organization’s Weeks Bay Chapter. Reed has served on the Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Commission and the Friends of Baldwin Steering Committee. “Public libraries are an integral part of our community,” said Liz Reed, director of the Baldwin County Library Cooperative. “We look forward to partnering with Mobile Baykeeper to provide our patrons with everything they need to know to protect our beautiful Baldwin County.” All Baldwin County libraries, except the Thomas B. Norton Library in Gulf Shores and the Magnolia Springs Pubic Library, will close on Friday to allow librarians to attend this event. All libraries will resume their regular schedules on Saturday. The Baldwin County Library Cooperative consists of the county’s 13 local libraries, the Bookmobile and 12 book deposit stations. BCLC is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The library is located in the Central Annex at 22251 Palmer St. in Robertsdale.
