Lee Charities announced the appointment of Mitchell Lee as president, placing a longtime nonprofit leader at the helm of an organization focused on strengthening social services across Baldwin County.
Founded in 2024 by David and Mitchell Lee, Lee Charities was created to elevate the county’s nonprofit and social services network through leadership, insight and giving. The organization aims to help nonprofits thrive through collaboration, connection and shared resources while bridging community support with agencies meeting critical needs countywide.
According to a news release, Mitchell Lee brings nearly a decade of nonprofit experience to the role. A native of Atlanta, Georgia, he earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of West Florida and later completed a Master of Social Work at Arizona State University. His nonprofit career began in 2015 as a case manager at a 100-bed men’s homeless shelter. He earned his State of Alabama Social Work License in 2018.
From 2018 to 2024, Lee served as executive director of the South Baldwin Literacy Council in Foley, where he focused on closing gaps in nonprofit services, particularly in education. His work has spanned homelessness, education, mental health and land conservation, giving him a broad perspective on the challenges facing both service providers and the people they serve.
Lee also serves on multiple community boards and is known for his commitment to organizational development and individual growth. In his new role, he will continue supporting nonprofit efforts across sectors while advocating for individuals and families who rely on charitable services in Baldwin County.
“I am honored and excited for the opportunity to further serve organizations that are doing meaningful work in Baldwin County,” Mitchell Lee said in the release.
Lee lives in Fairhope with his wife, Shea, and their children, Mabel, Davis and Oliver. The family is expecting another child later this month.
