SPANISH FORT, Ala. — “Miss SFHS” will be crowned at the Daphne Civic Center on Feb. 23 for the first time in Spanish Fort High School’s history.

Ninth through 12th grade female students can compete for the title of Miss SFHS. The new event is a fundraiser for the Girls’ Service Club, according to Kristie Davis, a SFHS teacher and Girls’ Service Club sponsor.

“The point of this competition is to crown our very first Miss SFHS — to be a role model and leader for our school,” Davis said.

The following quote was decided upon by the members of the Girls’ Service Club: “We are looking for the total young lady. We are looking for a natural beauty, both inside and out, a warm and pleasant personality, one that would be a good role model and community representative for Spanish Fort, someone who is confident, intelligent, respectful, and appreciates the role that she would have of becoming Ms. SFHS and who looks forward to serving her school and her community during her reign,” Davis said. “We just wanted to have something started with our senior class.”

The competition has already garnered a lot of support, and participation has been overwhelming so far.

Approximately 30 young women have signed up, according to Davis. Participants will be interviewed by the judges prior to the event and will be judged on a physical fitness routine and poise.

After the Top 10 contestants are chosen they will be required to answer an on-stage question.

Teachers will submit the questions and the participants can pull a question on stage. Three area former competition title owners, such as a former Miss America, will be judges.

The winner will win the title of Miss SFHS and be presented with a crown, trophy, sash and flowers. There will be four runner-ups and also a Miss Congeniality.

Davis said the entertainment has not yet been decided.

The event starts at 6 p.m. and tickets are $10 at the door and can be purchased from any SFHS Girls’ Service Club member. Prior to the event, voting will take place at the school for a Mr. SFHS who will also be presented at the pageant.
