James Arley Minchew, 87, a native of Stockton, and a residence of the Gateswood community of Robertsdale, died Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his residence.
He was self-employed as a pulpwood owner operator.
Survivors include his wife, Gussie Mae Sanspree Minchew of Gateswood; seven children, James Everette (Mona) Minchew of Gateswood, Hazel Virginia (Ed) Wyman of Pensacola, Fla., Silas Arley (Marti) Minchew of Foley, Henry Archie (Lori) Minchew of Lakoda, N.D., Ralph Eugene Minchew of Gateswood, Peggy Sue (Ray) Griffith of Cantonment, Fla., and Thomas R. Lonzie Minchew of Gateswood; sister, Sarah Kirchharr of Bay Minette; 17 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 17 step-great-grandchildren and six step-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 7 from the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with the Rev. John Loyd officiating. Burial followed at Dean Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were James Elton Brooks, James Everette Minchew II, Alan Lee Minchew, Kevin Thomas Minchew, Mark James George II and Michael James Minchew.
Honorary pallbearers were Terry Eugene Minchew, Mickey Ray Brooks, Samuel Riley George, Arley Joseph George, Arley Joseph George and Christopher Eugene Minchew.
Arrangements were made by Norris Funeral Home, Bay Minette.
