I find it odd that Sen. Richard Shelby would be so against helping the Big 3 with a loan when his own state has thrown millions of dollars at foreign automakers.
By some estimates the cost was over $200,000 per job created. These are not new jobs for the country, just for Alabama.
For every job that the state of Alabama bought, four to five jobs were lost elsewhere in the country.
There is a lot more that goes into a car than just putting it together.
Shelby should get out of his office (complete with lifetime medical and pension) and visit the Gulf Coast in the winter and spring months.
He would be surprised how many Michigan plates he sees in the resort parking lots. My group of 50 is already looking elsewhere.
I will encourage others to do the same. Anywhere but Alabama.
