Memorial bricks set for placement at Baldwin County Bicentennial Park

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — The Baldwin County Commission has approved a cost-only, two-tier memorial brick project at Bicentennial Park to honor family and friends and veterans from the country’s military conflicts.

The memorial brick paver project for non-veterans will be at a separate site within a map of Baldwin County at the park and bricks will be placed geographically in accordance with donor’s wishes.

The veterans’ memorial bricks will be placed at a memorial site near monuments honoring veterans from all wars involving U.S. troops, according to Baldwin County archivist John Jackson.

Jackson said the $40 cost for the bricks is the most reasonable he has found.

“This is a means of honoring Baldwin County residents in an enduring tribute to loved ones, parents, ancestors, friends and veterans,” Jackson said. “We tried to keep the cost low so everyone could be involved, if they wish.”

The brick paver project will offer placement an engraved brick in either the main pavilion area or the veteran's memorial area.

The veterans’ program brick purchase will allow engraved bricks to be purchased and placed along a pathway leading to the Veterans Memorial area, and a memorial brick program which will allow for the placement of memorial bricks in the Baldwin County Plaza located at the main Memorial and Honor Brick Programs.

Jackson said the program will honor a veteran in an enduring way, or a memorial to a loved one, parent, ancestor, remembrance of a friend or an honor to a unit, ship or group.

“Your brick will be placed in the Veterans Memorial Pathway section of the Baldwin County Veterans War Memorial, located within the Baldwin County Bicentennial Park,” Jackson said.

Patrons also can order a remembrance or honor brick to be placed on the Baldwin County Plaza at the main Picnic Pavilion. These bricks may be a remembrance of a family member, friend, donor, a company or organization or other such information as may be deemed acceptable by the Director of the Baldwin County Department of Archives and History.

Memorial Bricks will be ordered in economical lots and upon receipt, will be inspected for accuracy and placed as the Veterans Memorial Pathway is constructed or in the Baldwin County Plaza, depending upon the program in which patrons are participating.

Funds derived from brick sales will be used exclusively to assist in funding of construction, maintenance or educational programs of the Baldwin County Bicentennial Park, located 2 miles south of Stockton on State Road 225.

Bicentennial Park director Nick Warren said bricks will be placed with each group of 50 ordered.

Four lines of wording are allowed for each brick with 17 characters per line.
