Rose Victoria Novak McGinnis, 86, born Feb. 18, 1921 in Maribel (Cooperstown), Wis., died Monday, June 4, 2007 in Chico, Calif.

In 1924, she moved to and was raised in Silverhill, with her family, however, after orphaned at the age of 14, she was moved to Chicago, to join her sister, Marie and her family.

In 1938 she received her certificate as a registered beauty culturist and in 1940 she graduated from Carl Schurz High School. In September, 1943 she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corps and served until June, 1945 during which time she saw duty in the Middle East and Italy as well as met and married William “Mac” McGinnis in Cairo, Egypt on January 13, 1945.

After discharge, they moved to Chicago where in 1955, Rose began working in the trucking industry as a member of Teamsters’ Local 710. Retiring in 1978, she moved back hometo Silverhill, but was forever saddened by the death of her husband that same year.

In 1986, she moved to Chico, Calif., to join her son William, and to help raise her grandsons, Ryan and Tim. While in Chico, she volunteered with a number of senior organizations and groups and enjoyed playing cards and making numerous friends. While she enjoyed traveling the world, music and dancing, she most enjoyed her time with her family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rose Novak of Silverhill.

Survivors include a son, William “Bill” McGinnis; grandsons Ryan (Tanya) McGinnis and Tim McGinnis; great-grandchildren Gavin and Payton; daughter-in-law, Colleen Kendall and her children Mick and Molly Kendall; nieces Alice Anderson and Roberta Hoegner of Chicago and their extended families as well as in Alabama by numerous Novak, Fidler, and Rada nieces and nephews and their extended families.

A family memorial will be held in Silverhill.
