McGill-Toolen wins third straight Battle of the Bay tourney

DAPHNE – McGill-Toolen Catholic's Dirty Dozen won the Bayside Battle of the Bay tournament for the third straight year Saturday defeating the hosting Lady Admirals 25-18, 25-10 in the championship.

Bayside advanced to the title match with defeats over St. Paul's (25-23, 25-19) in the quarter finals and  Montgomery Academy (25-19, 25-10) in the semis which was a rematch of the 2009 3A state finalists which Bayside won.

Fairhope's Lady Pirates advanced to the semis and Spanish Fort made it to the quarters in the Silver division. Baker claimed the Silver trophy with a three-set win over Faith Academy.

McGill-Toolen improved to 25-3, Bayside's lone loss of the tournament put them at 18-4.

For Bayside Virgina Pittman had 51 kills, 16 aces, 18 digs and 15 blocks,

Gabby Deshotel had 34 kills and 26 blocks, Maggie Niemeyer had 31 kills, nine blocks, six  aces and 34 digs, Jhalen Caffey had 45 digs and 19 kills, Victoria Smith had 79 digs and Sydney Chandler 114 assists.
