Charles DeForest McDuff, 93, born Dec. 28, 1913 in Birmingham, to Fred Hale and Lena Rivers McDuff, a resident of Fairhope, died Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Mercy Medical in Daphne.

He was one of 13 children. He was a graduate of Phillips High School in Birmingham and attended Birmingham Southern (Howard College).

He joined the U.S. Marine Corps, Sept. 11, 1943 and served in the Pacific campaign on the island of Guam, Saipan and Tinian. After his discharge June 19, 1956, he returned to Birmingham and worked for Baggett Transportation Co. and Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. He and his wife Carolyn moved to Mobile in 1953 and then eventually worked for Jack’s Cookie Company as a sales manager until his retirement.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn McDuff, and daughters, S. Carol McDuff and Judy S. Conner.

Survivors include three sons, Dr. David (Marie Sanders) McDuff, Dr. John (Jane Murphy) McDuff and Scott McDuff; three brothers, Oliver McDuff, Wilbur McDuff and R.H. McDuff; and seven grandchildren, R. DeForest McDuff, Lee D. McDuff, Shelley M. McDuff, Claire S. McDuff, J. Clark McDuff, Murray L. McDuff and E. Riley McDuff.

Visitation will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 11 at Pine Rest Funeral Home with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. at Pine Rest Memorial Park.
