John Boykin McDowell, 75, born in Atmore and a resident of Bay Minette, died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at his residence.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean war and was a retired Shop Equipment Identifier with Brookley Field Air Force Base in Mobile. He was a member of Hand Avenue Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sue H. McDowell and grandson Christopher Hackett.
Survivors include a son, John B. McDowell III of Bay Minette; two daughters, Cathy Jo (Buddy) Collins of Summerdale and Carla M. Hackett of Theodore; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Rose Thornton; and his beloved companion Bear Dog Lady Bug.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 6 from the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with the Rev. James Thomson officiating. Burial followed at Bay Minette Cemetery. Military honors were rendered by U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Active pallbearers were J.J. Hobbs, J.C. Hobbs, John B. McDowell III, Ray Hackett, Innes Hardy and Wayne Kilpatrick.
