FOLEY — Empty seats were scarce at South Baldwin Chamber’s second Leadership Series of the year. South Baldwin’s top business leaders poured into the Foley Civic Center to enjoy a delicious meal from Cactus Flower Café and to receive an update on the City of Foley by Mayor John Koniar.
Mayor Koniar shared impressive numbers from the City of Foley for last year including: $17.4 million in capital projects and an increase in employees and new businesses that opened. The good news was acknowledged as the mayor shared awards the city and its team have received including the library’s Gold Standard Award.
Other recognitions included Sports Tourism Director Don Staley was awarded the Sports Tourism Executive of the year and public works was awarded AL PALS Governor’s Award for their work in cleaning up Highway 59. Mayor Koniar gave an update on the progress of current projects such as the pedestrian bridge over Highway 59, the Foley Dog Park and the Foley Sports Tourism Complex. Everyone in attendance left with fun facts about the city to share with friends and family; facts like the sanitation department picked up 5,137 tons of garbage in 2015. and the city website had 113,919 visits.
The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce will hold three more Leadership Series in 2016. The third is set for March 23, where attendees will enjoy lunch and an update on Foley Sports Tourism from Director Don Staley.
