Margie Jones Middleton, 89, a longtime resident of Fairhope, passed away Monday night, Jan. 13, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She fought bravely and heartily, and was able to die in her own home of 53 years. She will be so missed.

She was born in a small mill town in Alabama called Vredenburg with her father Jamie L. Jones and mother, Mini Inez Jones and seven brothers and sisters. She spoke of her birthplace often and fondly.

Ms. Margie was a registered nurse and worked at Beasley’s Nursing Home in Fairhope for 12 years. She then worked at Mercy Medical in the pharmacy for more 30 years.

She retired at 79, but continued to volunteer at Mercy Medical and at Fairhope Health and Rehab (formerly Beasley’s) into her 80s.

She was a longtime and devoted member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Fairhope.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph D. Middleton Sr.; her sister, Jolene Dean; and her brother, John E. Jones.

She is survived by her children, Daphne A. Middleton, Judith H. Pierce, Joseph D. Middleton Jr. and Rebecca C. Middleton M.D.; her granddaughter, Rainey Middleton; her brothers, Jamie Jones Jr. and Bert Jones; her sisters, Doris Rittlemeyer, Marilyn Mote and Katherine “Kitty” Hobbs, 27 nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 20, 2013, at 2 p.m., at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in Belforest Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Catholic Charities and/or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Arrangements by Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope.
