ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- A man who fled the scene of an accident in Orange Beach on Monday afternoon was apprehended by Orange Beach Police a few hours after the crash.

Police have charged David Yovis Jimenez, who has a Pensacola address, with providing false information to police and expect to charge him later today with a felony count of leaving the scene of an accident.

A Gulf Shores resident was injured in the crash, was treated for a head injury and later released. Leaving the scene of an accident becomes a felony if injuries or a death is involved.

"We did locate him last night around nine o'clock," Assistant Chief Greg Duck said. "We found him on the beach wandering toward Florida. Our own suspicion is the reason he ran is he's probably an illegal alien.

"He's not telling us much information at this time."

Jimenez is currently being held in the Baldwin County Jail.
