ORANGE BEACH, AL - Christopher Barnwell's run from the law ended about midnight on Barin Field Road in Foley on Nov. 6, Maj. Anthony Lowery of the Baldwin County Sheriff's Department said.

He was booked into the Baldwin County Correctional Facility about 7:30 a.m. on charges of failure to appear and possession of a controlled substance. Barin Field Road runs to the east of and paralell to the Foley Beach Express from U.S. 98 south to the entrance to Barin Field, a U.S. Navy airport.

The arrest came after another traffic stop. Barnell was initially stopped on Canal Road in Orange Beach the morning of Nov. 5 when he fled from police.

On Nov. 5 Orange Beach Police were assisting Baldwin County deputies in the search for Barnwell, a man deputies were looking to serve an arrest warrant on and take into custody.

Thursday afternoon officials identified Barnwell, 28, of Elberta. According to Baldwin County jail records Barnwell has a history of several arrests dating back to 2005, most of them involving drugs.

Also on his record are arrests for attempting to elude and in June he was charged by Foley Police with possession of a pistol by a violent felon.

The car was stopped between McNutt Lane and White Avenue on Canal Road when Barnwell fled on foot in the woods along White and east of Bayshore Towers. Alabama State Troopers brought in an helicopter which hovered in the area for about an hour searching for Barnwell.

Orange Beach had police officers stationed on Canal Road and other side streets on the look out for Barnwell.
