DAPHNE — Daphne police said Friday they had captured a man who may be responsible for two purse snatchings that occurred earlier this week at Wal-Mart.

William Jordan of Spanish Fort, who is believed to be in his early 40s, was arrested Friday morning after a short foot chase, said Lt. Jud Beedy.

Jordan was in a vehicle when spotted by Cpl. Donald Bettner, Beedy said.

He reportedly exited the vehicle and ran after being stopped by police, Beedy said.

Beedy said Jordan was apprehended by detective Joe Taylor after a short foot chase.

The incident took place on Academy Drive off U.S. Highway 98.

Since being apprehended, Jordan has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, Beedy said.

Police were continuing to question Jordan about the purse snatchings Friday afternoon, he said.

Prior to his arrest, police had been searching for an unidentified black man who reportedly took the purses on Wednesday and Thursday.

Both purse snatchings occurred in the late morning, Beedy said.

Police said the purses were taken after the victims exited the store and got into their vehicles.

The man was reportedly waiting in the parking lot in a black Ford Ranger truck, police said.

“The black man approached the vehicles and snatched the purses from the victims, ran back to his vehicle and left the scene,” a police news release reads.
