Mamie Jay Pitman White, 93, a resident of Robertsdale, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at home with her family by her bedside.
She grew up in the Styx River community and resided in Robertsdale, where she was city clerk of Robertsdale for 25 years. After retiring she co-founded the Baldwin County seniors club and was co-owner and operator of K’s Fashions in Robertsdale.
She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Robertsdale. In 1995 she moved to Mobile to be close to her daughter. She resided at Knollwood Pointe Assisted Living Community. While at Knollwood, she was charter member of The Helping Hands for shut-ins and The Red Hat Society.
She was a very dedicated, loving and thoughtful mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph White; daughter Donna Lee; her parents, John and Jennie Pitman; brothers, Jamie and Waters Pitman; and sister, Jean Pitman.
Survivors include daughter, Karen (Gary) Hutchens of Mobile; son, Warren (Donna) White of Robertsdale; four grandchildren Jason (Shannan) White of Mobile, Haley White of Robertsdale, Elizabeth (Michael) Ronkovich of Cameron Park, Calif., and Bill (Natalie) Hutchens of Alpharetta, Ga.; five step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express deep gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Knollwood Pointe and Odyssey Hospice Care for the love and wonderful care given to their mother.
Visitation begins at 9 a.m. Monday, July 18 at Mack Funeral Home, Robertsdale with funeral services at 10 a.m. from the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Hail Memorial Cemetery, Robertsdale.
