Make-A-Wish Alabama launches specialty license plate campaign to fund children’s wishes

Make-A-Wish Alabama is taking its mission to the road, launching a new specialty license plate campaign designed to turn everyday driving into direct support for children with critical illnesses across the state.

According to a news release, the nonprofit organization is seeking approval for an official Make-A-Wish Alabama specialty license plate, allowing motorists to visibly support wish-granting efforts while helping fund future wishes. For every plate purchased, $41.50 will go directly toward granting wishes for Alabama children and their families.

“Seeing these plates on highways and backroads across Alabama will be a powerful reminder of the hope our community creates when we come together,” Tracy Bennett Smith, President & CEO of Make-A-Wish Alabama, said in the release. “Every tag is a sign of joy waiting to be delivered, and with your help, we can bring these plates to life and grant even more wishes.”

To move the plate into production, Make-A-Wish Alabama must secure 1,000 pre-commitments from drivers statewide. Supporters can reserve a plate by completing a pre-commitment form through the organization’s campaign website. A $50 fee is required to hold the plate and will be applied to the registration cost once the tags are manufactured. Participants will continue using their current Alabama license plate until their next renewal period.

As an added incentive, the first 500 individuals to pre-commit will receive a commemorative keychain featuring the Make-A-Wish Alabama license plate design.

“This campaign is about more than just a license plate,” Smith added. “It’s about seeing hope carried down every street and interstate across Alabama. Together, we can ensure children battling critical illnesses experience the joy and strength that come with a wish granted.”

Make-A-Wish Alabama is part of the national Make-A-Wish network, which grants life-changing wishes to children facing critical illnesses, often providing emotional strength and renewed optimism during difficult medical journeys.
