MAGNOLIA SPRINGS – Magnolia Springs residents will soon have a new security measure in place for when they go out of town.
During its regular meeting Monday, the Magnolia Springs Town Council unanimously approved a new residential-vacation-security-check Program, which was presented by Baldwin County Sheriff’s Deputy Bob Correa.
Correa told the council that the program would be modeled after an “extremely successful program in California,” and that he anticipates this will relieve some “citizen fear of leaving and provide some kind of security.”
He explained that to participate, residents within the Magnolia Springs town limits should fill out an application indicating dates they will be away from their homes, as well as other details about their residences for that span of time. The deputy will then use the information to monitor homes while he is on duty and will submit a log to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.
Correa explained that he program will be limited to the Magnolia Springs town limits, but may be extended to the town’s jurisdiction limits after re-evaluation of the program at a future date.
Also Monday, the Magnolia Springs Town Council:
* Awarded a $109,302.24 bid for improvements to Magnolia Landing to Dyas Construction LLC.
* Asked HMR Engineers to present a 10-year design, including costs, for an improved drainage system for Bay Street.
* Appointed the following workers for the upcoming Aug. 28 election: Donna Eslinger, inspector; Dana Murphy, registration clerk; Reva Hinson, poll-list clerk; Joyce Gaar, ballot cler; and Maybelle Godwin, provisional-ballot clerk. The two alternates are Eric Bigelow and Bob Murphy.
* Approved the Garden Club’s request of $500 to purchase trees for Arbor Day.
