MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. — It may be 2015 before the fate of Magnolia Springs Public Library is decided.
During Tuesday’s Magnolia Springs Town Council workshop, Bill Given of the Library Board withdrew last month’s request that the Council decide whether it would take over the facility on Oct. 1. Instead, he changed that request to Oct. 1, 2015.
Given said the Library Board wanted to present the Council with new dates of interest, with the anticipation that the public library’s current incorporation would dissolve on Sept. 30, 2015 and the town taking it over the following day.
“Or not,” he said.
Given said this new timeframe gives the town leaders 13 ½ months to consider the proposal.
In conjunction, Given submitted a request of $23,000 in funding based on the calendar year. If the town assumes responsibility for the library, that request would be for $18,000 for the year’s first three quarters.
Given also said that if the town does take over the library, all tasks involving bringing that about should be identified.
“It needs to be planned in reverse, going from the first of October,” he said.
Discussion of the issue resulted in the Council agreeing to continue examining the various aspects of the proposal.
