Magnolia Springs Library to celebrate two years

MAGNOLIA SPRINGS, Ala. — The Magnolia Springs Library will celebrate its second anniversary this weekend.

The celebration is scheduled for 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the library.

Festivities will include music, a silent auction, a birthday cake and food provided by Scott’s Famous Barbecue.

“We’re having a big book sale,” Librarian Alida Given said.

She explained that last year, organizers planned on 100 attendees.

“And we ran out of food,” Given said. “It was a wonderful community response.”

Proceeds from that response actually support the library. Plus, Given said it’s a great way to bring visitors to the library.

“We wanted to celebrate once again,” she said.

Opened in October of 2011, the Magnolia Springs is run by Given and a cadre of volunteers. As previously reported, the facility is funded by the town of Magnolia Springs, donations and grants. Since its inception, the library has launched the Baldwin County Seed Lending Library, a fishing pole library and a program that enables youth to tutor older residents in electronics use. Also as previously reported, Magnolia Springs Library is among the top three most used library in the Baldwin County Library System, only behind munch larger municipalities.

Magnolia Springs Library is located at 12440 Magnolia Ave. Suite 600, in Magnolia Springs. For more information, call the library at 251-965-2305.
