The Magnolia Belles recently presented Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County Women Build with a donation to support building a home for a local family living in poverty housing.
The Magnolia Belles, an official chapter of the Red Hat Society, was chartered in December 2003 through the efforts of the “Queen Mother”, Mildred Whitaker. Each month the group chooses a hostess to select a community project to support. Edna Vealey, the hostess for September, chose WomenBuild as the charity for the Magnolia Belles to support.
Rosemary Harris, Family Services Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County served as the guest speaker and accepted the donation along with Pat Crumby, WomenBuild Volunteer.
The Magnolia Belles are responsible for donating money, food, clothing and many other items to over 20 organizations in Baldwin County since its inception in 2003. The women’s organization is made up of members from Fairhope, Foley, Magnolia Springs and Bon Secour. Currently 15 women are members and there is room for plenty more.
The Magnolia Belles meet the first Thursday of each month. For more information, call 965-3192.
Habitat for Humanity of Baldwin County WomenBuild, a program underwritten by Lowe’s, created in 1999, has been helping low-income families fulfill the dream of home ownership in Baldwin County.
