LOXLEY, Alabama --- At the next municipal election, voters in the town of Loxley will decide whether or not they want Sunday alcohol sales within the town limits.
At its meeting Monday, the Loxley Town Council approved Resolution No. 2012-01, to put the referendum on the ballot for the Aug. 28 election.
Baldwin County is one of 12 counties in Alabama to allow Sunday alcohol sales on a city by city basis. There are 26 counties in the state of Alabama that prohibit the sale of alcohol entirely.
In November of 2003, voters in Baldwin County approved a measure to allow the off-premise sale of beer and wine on Sunday. The off-premise sale of hard liquor is still prohibited on Sunday in Baldwin County.
Municipalities and Commission Districts were allowed to vote individually on the measure. The Town of Loxley and Commission District 2, which includes Rabun, Stockton and Tensaw, voted against the measure.
The Town of Loxley did not hold municipal elections in 2008 because of a lack of opposition to the town's mayoral and council seats.
In other business Monday, the Council passed Resolution No. 2012-03 adopting a municipal water pollution prevention program.
The Resolution states that the Town of Loxley informs the Department of Environmental Management that the following actions were taken by the Town Council:
