Loxley teen facing charges in theft from Robertsdale High School field house

ROBERTSDALE, Ala. – A Robertsdale High School senior and member of the Robertsdale High School football team was arrested Monday and charged with illegal use of a credit card/debit card.

Matthew Maddox Jr., 18, of Loxley faces a felony charge in the case and has been released on $5,000 bond from the Baldwin County Jail.

Sgt. Rex Bishop with the Robertsdale Police Department said the arrest stemmed from an incident which happened about three weeks ago when a wallet was stolen from a locker in the Robertsdale High School field house.

Maddox was arrested after a credit card from the wallet was used and video surveillance identified the Loxley teen as a suspect in the case. Bishop would not comment as to the amount of the credit card charge.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” Bishop said.

No information is available on what, if any, action has been taken by the school.

When contacted at Robertsdale High School on Tuesday, Principal Theresa Bryant said she could not comment on any matter regarding a student.

“That information would have to come through the school system,” Bryant said.

Terry C. Wilhite, communications director for Baldwin County Schools, said he could also not comment on the matter at this time.

“It is an active police investigation which limits what information we can provide,” Wilhite said in a written statement on Wednesday. According to school system policy, he said, any action taken would be at the discretion of the school’s principal.

Attempts to contact RHS Head Football Coach/Athletic Director Scott Phelps on Wednesday were unsuccessful.
