Loxley joins statewide campaign promoting local communities

Posted

The city of Loxley is joining a statewide effort to encourage residents to invest in their communities, support local businesses and help improve quality of life across Alabama.

The Live Locally Alabama campaign, spearheaded by the Alabama League of Municipalities, focuses on issues that shape communities, including public safety, infrastructure improvements, economic investment, education, workforce development, support for local businesses and access to cultural and recreational activities.

In a statement released by the city, Loxley's mayor expressed support for the initiative and emphasized the role local governments play in building stronger communities and creating opportunities for residents.

Alabama has 466 cities and towns, ranging from communities with about 100 residents to cities with populations exceeding 100,000, the statement said. Some municipalities predate the state's founding, while others have been incorporated within the past decade.

The statement also noted that although the state's largest populations are concentrated in urban areas, more than 42% of Alabamians live in rural communities, according to the 2020 U.S. Census.

The state's natural diversity also contributes to its appeal, with landscapes ranging from the white sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico to the Appalachian Mountains, known for their views and hiking trails. Combined with its residents and communities, these resources help make Alabama a place to live, work, play and raise a family.

The mayor's statement highlighted the importance of investing in local communities to support Alabama's economic future, noting that local governments are often the closest level of government to residents.

Through the campaign, municipal leaders are working to improve infrastructure, encourage thoughtful growth and development, preserve natural resources and promote healthier lifestyles.

Residents are encouraged to participate by shopping at local stores, dining at neighborhood restaurants, visiting nearby museums and spending time at local parks. The campaign also urges residents to attend city council meetings, take part in community initiatives and improvement projects and follow local government social media pages for updates on activities and plans.

Community involvement, the statement noted, gives residents an opportunity to help shape improvements that reflect local needs.

The initiative aims to bring residents and local officials together to strengthen Alabama's communities and build a more prosperous future for generations to come.
