LOXLEY — Take classrooms full of wriggling, wigglin’ students, add proud flash-poppin’ parents and a bevy of sometimes teary-eyed teachers and you’d have the recipe for the Loxley Elementary School’s 2007-2008 Academic Award Program held Monday, May 19 at the Loxley Civic Center.

Students in grades 1-6 proudly walked across the stage to receive A Honor Roll, A-B Honor Roll, perfect attendance, Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge awards, and Central Baldwin Kiwanis Club Terrific Kids Awards.

Kindergarten students had their own ceremony at the school.

“I’ve been working hard,” said Freshwanda Turner, a second-grade student. She earned “A-B” honors, indicating that she had earned an 80 percent or above average for each grading period throughout the year. Turner hopes to become a doctor, and she says her favorite subject is “math.”

“The students work hard all year,” said Loxley Elementary principal DeAnn Ramey. “They try hard, and they are not always immediately rewarded, but these are the students who have kept their nose to the grindstone all year.”

Gloria Jones traveled from Birmingham to see her great-grandchildren, Jake Ezellel, Hannah Ezellel, and Cullen Thurs receive honors.

“The older I get, the more of a thrill it is,” said Jones. “I am glad that I have lived long enough to see this.”
