Loxley Council approves bid for fuel use in 2012

LOXLEY, Alabama — The Loxley Town Council passed a resolution at its meeting Monday night awarding gasoline and diesel fuel bid for 2012 to Davison Fuels.

Prices were determined by a base cost, plus a percentage of mark-up, said Mayor Billy Middleton.

“Different companies have different markups for gas and diesel,” he said, “so we took the amount of fuel we used last year and based on those figures determined that Davison Fuels was the lowest bidder.”

Davison provided a gas markup of .0799 for gasoline and .1390 for diesel fuel. During the 2010-11 fiscal year, the town used 32,026.8 gallons of gasoline and 5,051.1 gallons of diesel. Based on those figures, it was determined that the total cost of markup for Davison Fuels would be $32,610.44, compared to $34,290.18 (.0921 markup for gasoline and .0949 for diesel) from Minto Energy and $42,385.67 (.113294 markup for gas and .12079 markup for diesel) from Southern Energy. Total cost for gas and diesel will vary based on market price.

The Town Council voted unanimously to accept to adopt Resolution No. 2011-30 accepting the bid from Davison Fuels with all Council members present at Monday’s meeting.

In other business Monday, the Town Council tabled a measure to adopt Resolution No. 2011-30 declaring a public nuisance at a property on Barlow Road in Loxley.

Council members decided to table the measure to the next meeting in January to give the property owner more time to clean up junk cars on the property.

The Council also voted to appoint Lloyd Keuler to the Industrial Development Board and appointed Bob Hughes to the Town’s Planning Commission.

They also voted to reaffirm a decision to purchase air packs for the fire department.

Middleton said in 2009 he was approached by the fire department about getting a loan for the air packs, asking that the town pay half the cost. A loan was secured through Citizens’ Bank and the town has been making monthly payments since that time.

But the action was never recorded in minutes for the Town Council and it was determined that a vote needed to be made to record the action in the Council meeting minutes.

The measure was passed unanimously at Monday’s meeting.
